Cedar Control

9 months later and I'm still clearing land.  I switched from hatchet to chainsaw a couple months ago and that sure made a big difference in my progress, although it seems like I still have 4 months of weekend warrior chainsawing to go  before I'm finished with the majority of it.

3 Months
I'd never done any chain link fence work before, but after talking to a friend at work (Kell Munoz Architects) he told me I was way to over-qualified to be worried about chain link fence construction.  I've drawn and detailed fences and gates, but actually having to do it yourself is something totally different.  After a quick trip to the hardware store to get some materials I was on site and had installed a new double gate which was absolutely necessary to get a truck on site.  Now I've got a 10' wide entry.
After the first few months I rented a chipper and borrowed a truck to make those cedars disappear  if anybody wants some mulch just drop by and pick it up. Thanks to family and friends the day I rented the chipper made a big dent in the cedars that I had already cut down. The 101 degree heat that day almost killed my buddy Kevin and soon to be father in-law Mike who was there all day with me.

6 Months
I didn't want to punish my friends and family again for helping me out, so after a few more months of cutting down trees I hired a contractor to haul away about 60cy of brush.  this was too easy, I met him on site one afternoon, then a week later 3 months of work had disappeared.  Tons of brush gone.

9 Months
I've got 3 huge piles of trees ready to be hauled away, maybe about 15 - 20 cubic yards of brush total. I'm going to give it a few more months though so I'll have about 60 - 80 cy's ready for removal all at one time to be cost efficient.

Here's a pic of one of the most open areas on the property.  More to come.

The First Step

STEP #1

Find the right land and make it your own.

STATUS:  COMPLETED

Notes:
This phase took much longer than expected, it's taken roughly 3 years to get this point.
